Home office / Buying guide

A better desk starts with fewer distractions.

A useful home-office upgrade fixes a specific annoyance. Start with screen position, comfortable controls, and space to work—not a shopping basket full of accessories.

01

Set up your screen before adding accessories

Position the screen so you can read without leaning forward or craning your neck. A laptop stand can lift a low display, but raising the laptop also raises its keyboard. Use a separate keyboard and mouse when working with the laptop elevated.

Before buying: Measure your laptop footprint. For a monitor arm, confirm VESA pattern, monitor weight, desk thickness, and whether the desk can safely take a clamp.

02

Choose a mouse and keyboard for your hands

A large sculpted mouse may suit one person and feel awkward to another. Compact keyboards free up desk width, but can remove a number pad or change familiar key placement. Pick the shape and layout that fit your daily tasks.

Before buying: Confirm handedness, keyboard language, Bluetooth or receiver support, and a return option if the fit is uncomfortable.

03

Improve calls with placement and light first

Before replacing a webcam, put your existing camera near eye level and face a window or a soft light. Avoid a bright window behind you. A dedicated webcam is useful when the laptop camera cannot be placed well or does not meet your calling needs.

Before buying: Check app compatibility, the connector, microphone needs, and whether a physical privacy cover is included.

04

Know what your USB hub can actually do

A data hub adds ports for devices such as a mouse or keyboard. It is not necessarily a charger, display adapter, or laptop docking station. USB-A and USB-C describe connector shapes, not a guarantee of charging power or video support.

Before buying: Match the host connector and check data, power, and video capabilities individually. Avoid assuming all USB-C ports behave the same way.

05

Keep only the cables you need within reach

Route unused cable length away from your working area. Reusable ties are a low-commitment start; an under-desk channel can help when several cables follow the same path. Leave enough slack for movement and access.

Before buying: Check adhesive compatibility with the desk finish and keep power supplies ventilated. Measure mat dimensions before buying a desk mat.

Buy for the task, not the trend

Start with what you already own. Replace or add a tool only when it solves a recurring problem. Compare the exact model, recent critical reviews, return terms, and delivery to your country before purchasing.
